“Israel’s Treasure” is a novel that delves into the mystery of the
Ark of the Covenant and other sacred relics from the Jewish Temple have gone unlisted in any conquering nation’s inventory. The story follows Josh Winslow and his best friend, Caleb O’Connor, as they embark on a perilous quest to find the Jewish Tabernacle and its worship articles, guided by an ancient letter from the prophet Jeremiah. Their discovery could potentially trigger a massive wave of Jewish immigration to Israel, but they face opposition from the forces of a new world order and Islam, which threaten their lives to prevent this discovery. The success of their mission seems to hinge on divine intervention from the God of Israel1.

COULD IT BE TRUE?

While the story line is, of course fictional, the existence of a letter such as the one in this story is mentioned in the writings of the Jewish historian, Josephus, as well as 2 Maccabees 2:4-8. Josephus refers to a letter written by the prophet Jeremiah to the Jews living in Babylon that informs them that the worship articles of the Temple were hidden on Mt. Moriah, now in Jordan, close to where Moses looked out over the Promised Land.

2 Maccabees 2:4 states, “It was also in the same document that the prophet, having received an oracle, ordered that the tent and the ark should follow with him, and that he went out to the mountain where Moses had gone up and had seen the inheritance of God.”

Vandal Jones, an American Noahide scholar who directed several archeological searches, believed the mysterious “Copper Scroll” found in the Qumran Cave #3 was actually a treasure map leading to the worship artifacts of the Tabernacle. His searches proved fruitless, insofar as finding the Ark of the Covenant, however, he claimed to be the subject of a movie script for “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

It should also be noted, that several Jewish rabbis claim to know the location of the Ark in a cave underneath the Temple Mount. As 2 Maccabees 2:7-8 states, “… The place shall remain unknown until God gathers his people together again and shows his mercy. Then the Lord will disclose these things, and the glory of the Lord and the cloud will appear, as they were shown in the case of Moses…”

Some day we’ll find out if the letter actually existed.
